Quick wins if you are in a hurry

  • Pre-cache shaders before your first session. Launch the game, sit at the main menu for 3-5 minutes, then enter gameplay. Endfield compiles shaders on first run and the hitching is especially bad during that window.
  • Disable all overlays. Discord overlay, Xbox Game Bar (Win+G to check), GeForce Experience in-game overlay, and Steam overlay all cause micro-stutters in Unreal Engine titles. Disable every single one.

Shader compilation stutter

Unreal Engine 5 games pre-compile shader permutations, and Endfield is no exception. The first time a new effect, environment, or ability plays, if that shader hasn’t been compiled yet, you get a freeze while the engine catches up.

The fix is to trigger those compilations before you care about them. Run through the opening area at full speed, let abilities fire, change zones, and generally stress the game for 15-20 minutes before a serious session. After that initial pass, those shaders are cached and the stutter largely disappears.

Also verify your shader cache isn’t being cleared between sessions. In NVIDIA Control Panel, go to Manage 3D Settings, find Shader Cache Size, and set it to at least 10 GB. AMD users can find the equivalent in Radeon Software under Graphics. If your drive is nearly full, shader cache gets pruned aggressively and you’re recompiling constantly.

When Endfield’s textures and assets exceed your GPU’s VRAM, the engine starts pulling from system RAM instead. That transition causes noticeable hitching, and it’s especially bad in combat where effect textures load fast.

The immediate fix is to lower Texture Quality by one step and watch if the stutter changes character. If it gets significantly better, VRAM was the bottleneck. Combat-specific drops are a different problem from session-wide stutter. This is usually the CPU struggling to keep up with particle systems, physics calculations, and ability logic all running at once.

Check your CPU usage during a heavy combat moment. Open Task Manager or HWiNFO64 and watch per-core load. If any single core is sitting at 100% while others are partially loaded, you’re hitting a single-threaded bottleneck. Endfield, like most UE5 games, doesn’t distribute CPU work perfectly evenly across all cores.

Dropping Particle Quality from High to Medium is the single best CPU-side move in Endfield. The visual difference is smaller than you’d expect, and the combat FPS recovery is meaningful, based on community testing across multiple hardware configurations.

Also check your power plan. Windows “Balanced” mode throttles CPU boost clocks during light load and doesn’t always ramp up fast enough when a combat scene hits. Switch to High Performance in Power Options and test again.


How do I fix crashes on PC in Arknights: Endfield?

Crashes in Endfield usually trace back to three things: corrupted game files, outdated or unstable GPU drivers, or a RAM/VRAM mismatch.

Start with the obvious one: verify game files through whatever launcher you’re using. Corruption is more common than people expect, especially after updates.

If crashes happen specifically under GPU load (during combat, during cutscenes, but not at the main menu), the driver is suspect. Do a clean driver install using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in safe mode, then install the latest stable driver from NVIDIA or AMD directly.
